Tragedy, Pizza, and the Commons

Classic.

These students were certainly well meaning. But in true poetic fashion they hide their waste within a public concourse leaving it for city staff to clean up.

Poetic in they arrived to speak on behalf of a University expansion that would impose upon the commons and public infrastructure. The somewhat transitory nature of student populations makes their treatment of the commons, on the margins, less diligent than a resident of 40 years intent on staying.

As a bit of background, these organized students from Stanford were given free Pizza My Heart slices, along with slogan-ed red t-shirts and appropriately sized signs, before entering city hall chambers. The slices were likely provided by a university associated person. I can think of few better incentives for students than free pizza. A large group of local long term residents, most with grey hair, had arrived earlier to obtain comfortable seating.

The county and University were at an impasse before the start of the session.
The pizza fueled public comments seemed to have little to no sway.
